Philanthropies

The application period for philanthropies is closed. Please check back again in January 2020.

Every year, the San Diego Chinese Women’s Association awards funding to organizations in San Diego County that promote public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the Chinese culture, or provide relief and services to the Chinese community and to the general community at large, as the membership decides.

Philanthropies are awarded twice a year. Holiday assistance is provided in December and general grants awarded in June:

1. Holiday donations to organizations, charities, and/or families in need are awarded in December.  The membership identifies and chooses recipients for the proceeds from our holiday luncheon.  A few charities or families we have supported in the past include: Bayside Community Center, Linda Vista Elementary School, Military Outreach Ministries, Monarch School for homeless children, SAY San Diego (Social Advocates for Youth), Union of Pan Asian Communities, and Spirit of Sharing.

2. Philanthropy funds which typically range from $500-$2500 each are awarded in June.  Some of our past recipients include: Lucky Lion Dancers of the CCBA, Pacific Arts Movement (formerly, San Diego Asian Film Foundation), San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, House of China, Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School, Asian Story Theater, Hawthorne Elementary School, Enoch Center, and international organizations such as OneSky (formerly, Half the Sky Foundation).  Agencies and organizations interested in applying for our philanthropy awards are required to submit an application with a financial statement (not a bank statement) by the deadline.  To apply, download and fill out the philanthropy application form (Word or PDF).

The total number and award amount of philanthropy monies granted will depend on availability of funding and the number of applicants.
