Philanthropy

In support of our County’s massive efforts to blunt the havoc left by COVID-19 disease, SDCWA contributed $4,000 to the San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund. The Fund provides resources to serve low-income individuals and families, and those who are most vulnerable to the crisis. Please consider making a donation to help your community.

The application period for philanthropies is closed. Please check back again in January 2021.

Every year, the San Diego Chinese Women’s Association awards funding to organizations in San Diego County that promote public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the Chinese culture, and/or provide relief and services to the Chinese community and to the general community.

Philanthropy awards are given twice a year, in December and in June:

1. Holiday donations to organizations, charities, and/or families in need are awarded in December.  The membership identifies and chooses recipients for the proceeds from our holiday luncheon fundraiser.  A few charities or families we have supported in the past include: Bayside Community Center, Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary School, Linda Vista Elementary School, Military Outreach Ministries, Monarch School for homeless children, SAY San Diego (Social Advocates for Youth), and Union of Pan Asian Communities.

2. Philanthropy funds (ranging from $500-$2500 each) are awarded in June.  Some of our past recipients include: Asian Story Theatre, The Elizabeth Hospice, Enoch Center, Friends of READ San Diego Literacy Program, Hawthorne Elementary School, Just in Time for Foster Youth, Olivewood Gardens, OneSky (formerly, Half the Sky Foundation), Pacific Arts Movement (formerly, San Diego Asian Film Foundation), and the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum.  Agencies and organizations interested in applying for our philanthropy awards are required to submit an application by the deadline.  To apply, download and fill out the philanthropy application form (PDF or Word).

The total number and dollar amount of philanthropy awards granted will depend on availability of funding and the number of applicants.
